A day in Durham
Does this look familiar to any Harry Potter fans? Well, the photo to my left is the Durham Cathedral where parts of HP were filmed. This cathedral is definitely the main attraction in this city. Built in 1003AD, the rich beauty and history of this place cannot be missed. Just next door to the cathedral, you can also tour Durham Castle. The castle acted as a fortress against the once Viking invaders. My husband and I enjoyed walking the beautiful grounds of the cathedral and taking in all of the splendor. Durham was voted one of the UK'S best cities to visit and is also a world heritage site. Plan to spend a few hours here.
We visited Durham on a Saturday, and needless to say it was a very busy city. Friends and families all gathering for some fun along the river and occupying the pubs to full capacity. It was a very fun energy to experience. The Old Elvet Bridge is a great place to take in the scenery and stop by at one of the local pubs. In doing my research on fun places to visit, I came across the Boat Club Durham. This place offers two floors of food and drink, an adorable beer garden, and riverside views. Their drink menu is creative and different, even offering seasonal favorites like the cream egg milkshake with a side of cadbury ;) A perfect place to rest your feet after a full day of sightseeing and shopping.
