England's Lake District

When we were planning our trip to Great Britain I knew the Lake District had to be apart of our itinerary. I came to this area as a child with my parents and it left quite an impression on me ever since. The majestic rolling hills of sheep and woodlands was like no other place I had been.. so when we were planning our trip, I knew my husband would love this area because he is such an outdoors-men. Our trip was during the month of June so the weather was pleasant and at times rainy and cold. Packing a rain jacket is a must during any time of year when traveling throughout Great Britain, A few things we will share in this post are the beautiful hotels that are available in this region. We found so many wonderful pubs, and shops that are a must see- and several areas for great walks. We hope you will enjoy reading this and please leave any comments or questions you have about this region!

Langdale Chase Hotel

The Langdale Chase, is a beautiful Edwardian style hotel located in Windermere. We chose this hotel because of its central location in the Lake District and also it was directly on the water, making our afternoon tea time that more pleasant. The hotel offers a traditional cumbrian breakfast in their lake view dinning room every morning, along with tea time in the afternoon. This hotel had such a quaint, historical vibe that it added so much character and charm to our visit. We were definitely experiencing the English lifestyle at its best.

Hilltop, is the home of one of England's most famous female authors, Beatrix Potter. The home is surrounded by lush gardens and roaming sheep. It is easy to see how she developed her inspiration for her characters and stories in The Peter Rabbit series. Inside the cottage, it is as if Beatrix Potter left it exactly the same as when she lived there. Truly stuck in time. From Windermere, it took us about 25 minutes to arrive at this spot.

Ambleside is another town to check out while in the Lake District. It's in between Windermere and Near Surrey. Ambleside has great shopping, and a few good restaurants to visit. A very picturesque town to see! The above photo is of the Bridge House which is located in the center of Ambleside. This house is pretty speculator in the way that it has survived the growth and change of the surrounding cities. Built in the 17th Century, this house has had many purposes throughout the course of time. It was once a counting house for the nearby mill, a tea house, weaving shop, and housed a family of 8!

The Drunken Duck was by far one of the best meals we had while in the Lake District. The atmosphere and decor of this adorable pub made us feel right at home. From local beers, brewed on site, to a wide variety of menu choices we most certainly cozied up with a bowl of soup and roasted chicken-making of hearts content! We will definitely be back on our next visit to the Lake District.
